Have you ever wondered how you can discuss and work on issues of your interest with other like-minded people? Are you ready to make this a world you would want to live in? With Jugend Parliament, the future starts with you.
The Youth Parliament (Jugend Parliament) is a platform where young people can discuss and debate with other young people on subjects that interest them and affect their everyday lives, and that relate to action and policies at a national and European level. Thematic committees write up opinions and resolutions which are presented to the Chamber of Deputies each year in a plenary session.
This institution has been active since 2008. With the help of two project managers and over 100 members, the Parliament has passed over 100 resolutions. Their committees include Foreign and European Affairs, Defence, Cooperation and Immigration (AFET), Economy and Labour (ECO), Education (EDU), Environment (ENVI), and Equal Opportunities and Integration (EGAL). The working languages of the Youth Parliament are Luxembourgish, German and French.
WHY SHOULD YOU JOIN?
The Youth Parliament is your opportunity to make an impact in your community by giving you a platform to take action. You’ll develop leadership skills ranging from public speaking, debating, collaborating and critical thinking that will help you in life, regardless of the path you choose. All this while connecting with like-minded teens across Luxembourg who are passionate about similar things.
You’ll also be able to take part in training courses in rhetoric, negotiation, decision-making and teamwork, between November and February to improve your skills. This educational offer is also complemented by visits and a weekend, which are organised for the purpose of exploring different activities in greater depth, strengthening the team spirit within the Youth Parliament, but most importantly, having a good time.
HOW TO GET INVOLVED?
To become a member, you need to be between ages 14 and 24 living in Luxembourg and/or attending school in Luxembourg. To register there is an online form on the website, under the Frequently Asked Questions tab.
The recruitment phase for the new Youth Parliament session begins shortly after the start of the school year, in the form of visits to various schools to present it. Within this period, pupils will also be exposed to how the Parliament works and its culture of debate. This recruitment phase continues throughout the school year – it is therefore possible to join the Youth Parliament throughout a current session.
The Youth Parliament is a unique and enriching experience in which every young person has the right to participate! Don’t hesitate any longer and join the Youth Parliament!
